The paper deals with phosphazene derivatives used to ensure the chemical crosslinking of water-based coatings and, simultaneously, to increase their flame stability. Functionalized emulsion copolymers were prepared by the technique of semi-continuous emulsion polymerization. Resulting one-component coating compositions were formed by a combination of latex and low molecular weight hardener agent. The transparency, gloss and flexibility of resulting coatings were not affected by the presence of hexaaminocyclotriphosphazene. In contrast, the presence of hexaaminocyclotriphosphazene positively influenced flame stability of coatings in terms of heat release rate, effective heat of combustion and maximum rate of average heat emission during the process of material combustion.
